Understanding the individual

An autism evaluation considers developmental history, communication, behavior, and everyday functioning. The goal is to understand the individual and clarify questions about diagnosis and support needs.

What an evaluation may include

The assessment may include clinical interviews, a review of earlier evaluations, information from family members or caregivers, and diagnostic measures selected for the person being evaluated. Your clinician will explain which parts of the assessment are appropriate.

Preparing for your visit

Bring previous psychological or developmental evaluations, school reports when relevant, and a list of questions or concerns. We discuss the findings and recommendations with you and, when appropriate, your family.
